How I Built a Custom Hotel Website That Drives Direct Bookings
A boutique hotel was losing bookings to generic template websites. I built a custom site with optimized images, smooth animations, and a guest-first layout that increased direct inquiries.

What makes a custom hotel website worth it?
I built Casera a custom website that increased direct guest inquiries by replacing their generic template with a site designed around the actual guest experience. The project took 2 weeks and the result loads in under 2 seconds despite being image-heavy.
Casera is a boutique hotel that was stuck with a template website that looked like every other hotel online. Guests couldn't get a feel for what the place was actually like before arriving. They wanted a custom site that matched the vibe of their property and helped bring in more direct bookings.
How did I structure the page around the guest experience?
I organized the page in the same order you'd think about things when deciding where to stay. You open the site and the hero gives you that first impression. Scroll down and you see the rooms and amenities. Then testimonials from past guests, and finally the location with an embedded map.
The color palette uses warm, earthy tones that match the hotel's interior. Serif fonts on headings, sans-serif for body text. It feels elegant but still easy to read.
How did I solve the image performance problem?
The biggest technical challenge was images. Hotel websites need big, beautiful photos, but those can destroy load times. I converted everything to WebP format and set up lazy loading so only the images in your viewport actually load. The result is a page that looks image-heavy but still loads in about 2 seconds. Compare that to most hotel template sites that take 5-8 seconds because they load 30 unoptimized JPEGs at once.
The scroll animations are soft and slow. When someone's browsing a hotel website, they should feel relaxed. Fast, snappy animations would feel wrong here.
What impact did the new website have?
The hotel owner told me that guests now mention the website when they check in. Direct inquiries went up because people can actually see what the place looks like before they book. That's the difference between a template and a custom website that's designed for the actual business.
